Our Founder
Laura
Hi, I’m Laura! With 15 years of experience in reptile and amphibian keeping, I’ve only achieved so much. From volunteering at a zoo and wildlife rescue organization, working at a reptile pet store, and building reptile enclosures, to breeding jap quails for snake food and owning a variety of reptiles like bearded dragons, children’s pythons, carpet pythons, rough scaled pythons (my favourite snake), murray river turtles, and green tree frogs. I have a partner and one son who are both equally in love with animals, our menagerie includes one 15 year old manx cat, two Green Tree Frogs and four Central Bearded Dragons – soon to add an Ackie (Ridge Tailed Monitor) to the mix.
In my professional career, I transitioned into Adult Education in a Vocational environment, where I followed strict compliance requirements and Government guidelines. I quickly rose to the position of managing a small education provider and professional association in the health and wellness sector. Responsibilities such as compliance, human resources, sales and marketing, training and assessing, support networks, accounts, administration, course development, and professional development all come second nature to me.
As a child, I was always fascinated with computers, thanks to my dad’s work. My family is filled with artists, and I developed a liking for Graphic Design during my teens. With my knack for technology, I quickly became a fast learner in web design and development. Despite my career and love for computers, animals have always been my true passion.
Growing up in Tassie, I was surrounded by an abundance of Aussie wildlife, frequently encountering echidnas and bandicoots. I’ve had a variety of domestic pets, including cats, rabbits, and mice (which I also bred). I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn horsemanship and riding lessons, both in the arena and out in the bush. One of my fondest memories as a child was observing skinks and discovering the fascinating reason behind their tail drop.
